What is Blackjack and what are its rules?

Blackjack is also known as twenty one and is one of the most widely played casino games in the world. It is played between a player and a dealer and is played with one or more decks of 52 cards each.  The player is dealt a two card hand and then he has the option to bring the total value to twenty one by drawing cards so as to make the dealer lose.

The game works on the principle that you need to get your hand value as close to 21 as possible before your dealer but at the same time not exceeding 21. Rules in Blackjack:

1.       The ace can be numbered as either 1 or 11. You need to decide it previously before the game starts.

2.       The cards between 2 and 9 are as per their face values.

3.       10, jack, queen, king are numbered 10.

4.       The sum of the value of the cards in your hand is the total count.

5.       Each player is dealt with two cards either face up or face down including the dealer. The players can then draw cards to better their hands.

6.       If you have two cards of the same value, you can split them as two hands.

7.       You can also surrender unimportant hands if you want to.

8.       The player that beats the dealer by getting as close to 21 as possible before the dealer wins the game.

Blackjack is not played against other players but against the dealer. Hence your aim must be to compete against the dealer and not your fellow players. A game of blackjack is one of the oldest and most popular games played at casinos even today.
